storing the contents of a one-bed flat or just a few boxes of uni gear, guessing the right size can feel like a weirdly stressful maths
We get this question all the time at Space Buddy: “How big of a unit do I need?” Whether you’re storing the contents of a one-bed flat or just a few boxes of uni gear, guessing the right size can feel like a weirdly stressful math problem.
1. Start with this rule of thumb.
On average:
• 25 sq ft fits the contents of a studio flat (or 40 medium boxes)
• 50 sq ft is great for a 1–2 bedroom flat.
• 100 sq ft holds a 2–3 bedroom home
• 150+ sq ft fits large homes or business stock; if you’re just storing boxes, one cubic meter = 6–8 medium-sized boxes.
2. Not all stuff stacks the same.
Books and boxes? Stackable.
Bikes and flat-pack furniture?
Not so much.
3. Think in rooms, not items.
Instead of listing every item, think about what room it came from.
Moving your bedroom and living room?
You’re likely in the 75–100 sq ft range.
Just some boxes and seasonal gear?
25–35 sq ft should do.
